Why do baby boys wear blue and baby girls wear pink?
A long time ago, many people believed that the color blue represented the sky, or the heavens. They also believed that the world was full of devils and evil spirits. These spirits were often thought to gather around the rooms of children, so that they could either enter children’s bodies or take them away.
The solution to this problem was to make children wear the color blue, the color of the heavens, which would guard against evil spirits.
In ancient times, most cultures believed it was more important for baby boys to live, so that they could carry on the family name. In this way, it came to be that baby boys were dressed in the color blue to protect them.
Later on, baby girls were also given a color to wear: they were given the color pink, which is often thought of as the color of the rose.

大昔、多くの場所で家督を継ぐ男の子が生き残ることこそ大事なことだと考えられていました。それが男の子に青い服を着せて守ろうという行動に表れていると考えられます。
後に、女の子にも色のついたものを着せようということになり、バラの色を思い起こさせるピンク色があてがわれたのです。
