What Is a Company?
What is a company (that is, a business, enterprise, or corporation)? A company is a place for producing things. Simultaneously, it is a place for hiring workers. Both production and employment are important economic factors.
Each company attempts to make a profit by offering to society what its specializes in. “Offering” means production and sales, and the more things produced, the more people needed.
By their very nature, companies try to increase profit to the fullest extent. This means hiring more people and increasing production proportionally. However, making a profit is not that easy. There are times when the things produced don’t sell at all; there are times when something that sold well in the past ceases to sell.
There are times when a competitor appears that does the same thing better, and does it cheaper. The only way a company can respond to this is technological innovation and adjustments in pricing, production, and employment. That’s how it rides out the storm.

企業はものを生産する場です。それは同時に人を雇う場所でもあります。経済にとって、生産と雇用は重要なファクターです。
各企業は、自分の得意なことを社会に提案し、お金を稼ごうとします。提案することとは商品を生産し販売することであり、より多く生産するためには人を雇わなくてはなりません。
また、企業は本能的になるべく多くお金を儲けようとします。そのために人を多く雇って、生産を少しでも多くしようとします。しかし、いつも上手くお金が儲かるわけではありません。生産したものが全く売れないこともあれば、昔は売れていたのに時間が経つと売れなくなることもあります。
さらに、同じことをより良く、より安く提供しようとする競合企業が現れることもあります。こうしたとき、企業はさらなる技術革新や、価格調整、生産調整、雇用調整などで乗り切っていくのです。
