When setting prices, one thing that must always be considered is cost. Cost includes the cost of producing the product, the selling of the product, and company profit.
The cost of producing the product includes, first of all, research and development, from planning to production. To this is added the cost of raw materials, the cost of manufacturing facilities, wages, costs of transporting the finished products, and so forth—all of which is called the manufacturing cost.
The cost of selling the product is referred to as the “selling, general, and administrative cost” and includes advertising and salesman expenses and the general cost of running the company. The resulting profit is used to pay the salaries of management and employee bonuses as well as for research and development and investment in new facilities.
When the sum of all these costs is divided by total production, you get the cost of the product. Of course, if this price is unsuitable to the market, the product will not sell. In that case, efforts must be made to cut costs and lower the price, or the product must be abandoned.

企業が価格決定するときに必ず検討するのがコストです。具体的には商品を生み出す費用、商品を売る費用、企業の儲けを加味して価格を決定するのです。
商品を生み出す費用は、まず、商品企画から生産までにかかる研究開発費です。さらに原材料の費用、製造するための設備に関わる費用、製造する人件費、製造したものを運ぶ費用などで、これを製造原価と言います。
商品を売る費用は、広告宣伝費や売る人の人件費、会社を維持する費用などで、これを販売管理費と言います。また、最終的な儲けは経営者や従業員の賞与や次の研究開発や設備投資などに使われます。
こうした金額を積み上げた総額を総生産量で割ると商品価格が出ます。しかし、その価格が市場に適合していないと、商品は売れないことになります。すると、コストをカットし、さらに安くする努力をするか、販売を止めたりします。
